Jam Magno a known supporter of former President Rodrigo Duterte took social media to defend Nicolas Torre III, the Chief of the Philippine National Police.
Despite facing criticism, insults, and backlash from netizens, Torre managed to raise an impressive amount of PHP16 million pesos for those affected by the recent natural calamities.
How Baste vs Torre started?
The match was ignited by Duterte’s assertion on his podcast on July 20 that he had the physical strength to defeat Torre in a fistfight.
Baste stated : “Kasi matapang ka lang naman if you have the position. Pero kung suntukan tayo, alam ko kaya kita. Kung gusto mo akong harapin, harapin mo lang ako.
“Do not worry Mr. Torre, sanay na ako sa iyo. You are nothing without your position…sa totoo lang.” he added.
These remarks were made in response to Torre’s involvement in the arrest of Duterte’s father, former President Rodrigo Duterte, in March 2025.
In response to the recent heavy rainfall and severe flooding, the national police chief Nicolas Torre III proposed organizing a boxing event to raise funds for the victims.
Torre shared : “I responded to him because our fellow citizens’ humanity is being taken away. That’s not allowed.
“It’s not just because you’re in power that you’re allowed to do whatever bullying you want to do against people with less power.” he added.
Baste Duterte, however, was unable to attend the charity boxing match organized by the PNP on Sunday July 27.
Torre informed the crowd at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum in Manila that the matches generated over P300,000 in ticket sales and more than P16 million in donations.
He assured the public that all the proceeds from the event would be directed towards relief efforts for those affected by the recent natural calamities.
As a result, Jam Magno defended Torre against the insults and bashing from netizens online.
Magno said : “Ang daming nang-insulto kay Torre, pero siya lang ang naka-raised ng PHP16M para tulong sa mga nangangailangan. ang mga bashing niyo wala talaga.. walang naitulong kahit alikabok!”
